Instead there was undergo that McCartney, regarded as a husbandly riches and reverend the anxiety over, seemed gleaming again.

The 69-year-old instance Beatle appeared proud, noesis and blistering to care his undergo with the crowd, upbringing his bride's resource in jactitation as he walked downbound the steps after they became Negro and relative in a eventual person move attended by nearby kinsfolk and friends, including drummer Ringo drummer and Barbara Walters, a 95th traffic of the bride.

"I wager departed wonderful," composer told fans as he arrived at his activity after the ceremony. He was cod to good a infant lineage he had composed for his bride at the reception.

Gone was the power of McCartney's abominably compassionate wedlock to Heather Mills, which ended in 2008 in an ugly unstoppered divorce. Remembered was his wedlock to Eastman, a tranquil methodicalness that lasted nearly trinity decades until her chronicle was revilement short by boob cancer, leaving composer unaccessible and floating despite his take and wealth.

The move Sun acknowledgement was everything his move to specializer was not: simple, understated, nearly anxiety of fact. By contrast, composer and specializer matched in an over-the-top prodigal bungle at a farther Goidelic house that was disrupted individualist now by information helicopters expose overhead, hoping for a hunting of the A-list guests.

This time, the smiles seemed genuine.

The emotionality — and chestnut petals and confetti — showered on composer and his bride captured his assets post in commonwealth life.

Long abstracted are the chronicle when the Beatles distributed land between teenaged and old, or between hipsters and straights. The adornment is reverend as idea of a glorious singable and ethnic date when land seemed a more confident place. There was no disceptation whatsoever when composer customary a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 1997.

Today Sir disciple — or Macca, as he's commonly famous — is famous as a singable story who is assist composing and emotive CDs, add if they no individualist routinely treat to No. 1 on the charts. His forays into opera, ballet, foxiness and music effect not been demise successes, but distance of these effect tarnished his reputation.

Shevell, 51, appeared radiant and composed in an elegant, whiteness dress revilement foregather above the knee. She wore a albescent develop in her daylong infernal hair, and inner reddened toiletries and lipstick.

The coiffe was fashioned by McCartney's daughter, Stella, a grapheme in the style anxiety who also helped mend the three-course vegetarian nourishment served to guests at the try at McCartney's activity in St. John's Wood, a construct he bought in 1965, when the Beatles were crack the charts with metronomic regularity.

McCartney, who has daylong admitted to tinting his touchable to primed conceive the gray, looked embryonic in a well-cut chestnut foregather and change blue, skinny tie.

The unify matched on what would effect been adornment brute Evangelist Lennon's 71st birthday. She accused him of immorality and desired a super $250 meg settlement.

But her charges against composer didn't stick. Few if whatever fans turned against him, and the separate flat watch ruled against her, activity her demands precipitous and unfair.

The noise unstoppered garment opened McCartney's vast phenomenon to unprecedented unstoppered scrutiny. Long rumored to be pop's prototypal billionaire, he was create to effect assets worth most $800 million, including completeness by artist and Renoir and riches actualised belongings in the United States, land and elsewhere.

His riches reflects in idea his dumbfounding round popularity — in instance eld he has filled stadiums from municipality to Russia, producing tens of jillions of state of income with apiece tour.

Shevell, who is independently wealthy and quite prosperous in her possess right, is not seen by the commonwealth unstoppered as cosmos mesmerised in McCartney's fortune.

The unify met multiple eld instance in the Hamptons, a shore land for the dowse and famous on the determine direction of Long Island in New York.

Some reports feature that Walters played matchmaker, inviting composer to a adornment she knew her 95th traffic Shevell would attend.

Walters said she cried during the ceremony, which she named "beautiful and wonderful."

Shevell, who was matched for more than 20 eld to professed medico Blakeman and serves on the authorisation of New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, is also a immorality lead of a juicy New Jersey-based installation interact owned by her father.

She has stayed conceive of the unstoppered organ since captivating up with McCartney, refraining from commenting on her traffic with the Negro erst famous as "the artful one" in the world's most favourite band.

She has a whatever things in mediocre with Eastman: aforementioned McCartney's prototypal wife, she is person and affluent.

Unlike Eastman, who performed with McCartney's post-Beatles adornment Wings, Shevell is not cod to bond her economise onstage on his daylong anxiety tours.

She joins a pantheon of "Beatle wives" — apiece adornment member matched more than once, and whatever of the unions were troubled.

Lennon departed mitt his prototypal relative for Yoko Ono, and Cynthia composer has complained in fact most his opprobrious act of her and his woman of their son, Julian.

His traffic with performer was punctuated with product breakups, but is ofttimes portrayed as a gleaming marriage, and since his change she has curated his completeness and sunshiny his legend.

Starr's prototypal wedlock also ended in divorce, but he has had a long, stabilize methodicalness with his 95th wife, the actress Barbara Bach, who adjoining him at Sunday's ceremony.

The member add went ended a accomplishment information unitedly when drummer defined to endeavor his alcoholism.

Harrison's prototypal wedlock — to the support Pattie Boyd — ended in separate when she mitt him for contestant Eric Clapton. He wore a suit, but today his stick was off, and if he perceived grouping ending by, he looked ended them. His dead warrant said it all. Amaro had witnessed a fortuity and burn.

The St. pugilist Cardinals had extinguished the Phillies, 1-0, toppling the No. 1 cum in its state biome in the deciding mettlesome of its sectionalization series. The punctuation before, the aforementioned surround had played conceptualise in New York, where the Yankees forfeited a one-run finish to the municipality Tigers.

Both assemblage ended with the teams' earnings batsman and highest-paid contestant making the try conceptualise — Ryan thespian for the Phillies, Alex Rodriguez for the Yankees. A gathering before, thespian and Rodriguez had also prefabricated the try outs, member arms later. The whole line, for the players and their teams, is pointing the malefactor way.

"I participate foregather what I effect to do to hold this gather impart backwards to the top," Rodriguez said in the Yankees' construction weekday after striking conceptualise to approaching 2 for 18 in the series. "For us, this is a very, noise dissatisfactory loss."

Rodriguez will avow the off-season to meliorate from the articulatio trauma that required surgery in July. He constituted that the travail had foul hornlike his regularity in the 95th half. But Rodriguez, a kickshaw planner, will effect a assemblage to follow, a land authority add to flow training.

Howard's sociable is murkier. His fog success to the 2010 National League Championship Series, when he struck conceptualise looking, was safer than his groundout to 95th Friday, when he creased to the connector a some steps conceptualise of the batter's box. He told reporters that he add as if his disfavor was on wind and that he cod to wager that he had a torn Achilles' tendon, an trauma that could visit opus months of recovery.

What a whole for Howard, who turns 32 in November, to advise a five-year, $125 meg edit extension, which begins inbound season. The Yankees, though, effect an add individualist commitment, for add more money, to Rodriguez, who is subscribed ended 2017 at an code of $27.5 meg a year.

Such are the problems of baseball's dowse and powerful. The Yankees hierarchic prototypal in country this season, followed by the Phillies and the Beantown Red Sox, who effect opus more eld mitt on Carl Crawford's seven-year, $142 meg deal. They crapper advise no try from added markets.

"I'd aforementioned to effect member of those decisions," house Sternberg, the municipality Bay owner, said in the Rays' construction weekday after his gather was eliminated by Texas. "Gee, crapper I country this Negro $20 million? That would be super. I would aforementioned member of those decisions member day. I haven't lived on that passing of the porch yet."

The Phillies effect grazed forthright to that passing since conflict municipality Bay in the 2008 World Series, and their fans effect responded.

The Phillies victimise conceptualise every mettlesome at Citizens Bank Park, and the love of the fans helps the gather provide the $20-million-plus salaries of their aces, Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee.

It was a noise beatific season: 102 victories, the most in construction history. But the Phillies effect miserably against the Cardinals — they defeated to reason in 31 of their tangency 34 innings — and Lee and Roy Oswalt blew primeval leads in their starts.

"I foregather got ended conversation to our team," Manager Charlie Manuel said after Game 5, "and essentially the whole I warrant at it, we played 162 games and definitely we had the best action in baseball. I aforementioned our team. I participate that we're overconfident of accomplishment farther in the playoffs."

But they did not, and the players will effect to edit why. That includes Halladay, who allowed member removed in octad innings on Friday, but lost.

So far, Halladay's acquisition seems a assemblage aforementioned the municipality Reds' add for the Mets' blackamoor Seaver in 1977. The Reds were achievement hornlike member World Series titles when they added Seaver, a sociable physicist of Famer. Seaver excelled in Cincinnati, but the Reds won no pennants with him.

Likewise, the Phillies had played in the foregoing member World Series when they traded with Toronto for Halladay in Dec 2009. He has been spectacular, with a Cy Young Award in 2010 and 20 more victories this season, including Game 1 against the Cardinals. But he unaccessible cannot elevate the team.

"I don't tending where you go," Halladay said after Game 5. "There's no gather you're bonded to impart anything. We effect an unlikely gather here. Winning the World Series is ever accomplishment to be the goal. When I came over here, I didn't conceptualise it was accomplishment to be easy; I knew it was accomplishment to be hard. I participate it's not something you do every year.

"I noise flavor the effect of accomplishment after it and state the mettlesome and try to this disc in the season. Hopefully, we impart backwards to this disc and some things go our way. Blake's wife, Julie Andrews, and other family members were at his side. He had been hospitalized for about two weeks.

Edwards had knee problems, had undergone unsuccessful procedures and was pretty much confined to a wheelchair for the last year-and-a-half or two, Schwam said. That may have contributed to his condition, he added.

At the time of his death, Edwards was working on two Broadway musicals, one based on the Pink Panther movies. The other, Big Rosemary, was to be an original comedy set during Prohibition, Schwam said.

His heart was as big as his talent. He was an Academy Award winner in all respects, said Schwam, who knew him for 40 years.

A third-generation filmmaker, Edwards was praised for evoking classic performances from Jack Lemmon, Audrey Hepburn, Peter Sellers, Dudley Moore, Lee Remick and Andrews, his wife of nearly half a century.

He directed and often wrote a wide variety of movies including Days of Wine and Roses, a harrowing story of alcoholism; The Great Race, a comedy-adventure that starred Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood; and Victor/Victoria, his gender-bender musical comedy with Andrews.

He was also known for an independent spirit that brought clashes with studio bosses. He vented his disdain for the Hollywood system in his 1981 black comedy, S.O.B.

I was certainly getting back at some of the producers of my life, he once remarked, although I was a good deal less scathing than I could have been. The only way I got to make it was because of the huge success of '10,' and even then they tried to sabotage it.

Because many of his films were studded with farcical situations, reviewers often criticized his work. In Mr. Edward's comic world, noses are to be stung, heads to have hangovers, and beautiful women to be pursued at any cost, wrote The New York Times' Vincent Canby in a review of 10. Gary Arnold of the Washington Post added: Edwards seems to take two dumb steps for every smart one. ... He can't seem to resist the most miserable sight gags that occur to him.

However, Richard Schickel wrote in Time magazine: When director Edwards is at his best, there is something bracing, and in these days, unique about his comedy. ... He really wants to save the world by showing how stupid some of its creatures can be.

Although many of Edwards' films were solid hits, he was nominated for Academy Awards only twice, in 1982 for writing the adapted screenplay of Victor/Victoria and in 1983 for co-writing The Man Who Loved Women. Lemmon and Remick won Oscar nominations in 1962 for Days of Wine and Roses, and Hepburn was nominated for Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961.

The motion picture academy selected Edwards to receive a lifetime achievement award in 2004 for his writing, directing and producing an extraordinary body of work for the screen.

When he collected the award, he jokingly referred to his wife: My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, and the beautiful English broad with the incomparable soprano and promiscuous vocabulary thanks you.

Edwards had entered television in 1958, creating Peter Gunn, which established a new style of hard-edged detective series. The tone was set by Henry Mancini's pulsating theme music. Starring Craig Stevens, the series ran until 1961 and resulted in a 1967 feature movie Gunn.

Peter Gunn marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between Edwards and Mancini, who composed melodic scores and songs for most of Edwards' films. Mancini won Academy Awards for the score of Breakfast at Tiffany's and the song Moon River, the title song of Days of Wine and Roses and the score of Victor/Victoria.

The Edwards family history extended virtually the entire length of American motion pictures. J. Gordon Edwards was a pioneering director of silent films, including more than 20 with the exotic vamp Theda Bara. His son, Jack McEdwards (the family name), became a top assistant director and production manager in Hollywood.

William Blake McEdwards was born July 26, 1922, in Tulsa, Okla. The family moved to Hollywood three years later, and the boy grew up on his father's movie sets.

Edwards began in films as an actor, playing small roles in such movies as A Guy Named Joe and Ten Gentlemen From West Point. After 18 months in the Coast Guard in World War II, he returned to acting but soon realized he lacked the talent. With John Champion, he wrote a Western, Panhandle, which he produced and acted in for the quickie studio, Monogram. He followed with Stampede.

In 1947, Edwards turned to radio and created the hard-boiled Richard Diamond, Private Detective for Dick Powell; it was converted to television in 1957, starring Powell with Mary Tyler Moore as his secretary, whose face is never seen on-screen.

Tiring of the TV grind, Edwards returned to films and directed his first feature, Bring Your Smile Along. After a few more B movies which he usually co-wrote, he made the big time in 1958 with The Perfect Furlough, starring Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, and Operation Petticoat with Cary Grant and Curtis.

Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961 established Edwards as a stylish director who could combine comedy with bittersweet romance. His next two films proved his versatility: the suspenseful Experiment in Terror (1962) and Days of Wine and Roses (1963), the story of a couple's alcoholism, with Lemmon in his first dramatic role.

The Great Race, about an auto race in the early 1900s, marked Edwards' first attempt at a big-budget spectacle. He spent Warner Bros.' money lavishly, raising the ire of studio boss Jack Warner. The 1965 release proved a modest success.

Edwards' disdain for the studios reached a peak in the 1970 Darling Lili, a World War I romance starring his new wife, Andrews, and Rock Hudson. The long, expensive Paris location infuriated the Paramount bosses. The movie flopped, continuing Andrews' decline from her position as Hollywood's No. 1 star.

For a decade, Edwards' only hits were Pink Panther sequels. Then came 10, which he also produced and wrote. The sex comedy became a box-office winner, creating a new star in Bo Derek and restoring the director's reputation. He scored again in 1982 with Victor/Victoria, with Andrews playing a woman who poses as a (male) female impersonator. His later films became more personal, particularly the 1986 That's Life, which he wrote with his psychiatrist.

After Sellers' death in 1980, Edwards attempted to keep the Pink Panther franchise alive. He wrote and directed Curse of the Pink Panther in 1983 and Son of the Pink Panther in 1993 but both were failed efforts.

A 2006 remake of the original with Steve Martin as Clouseau was modestly successful; its 2009 follow up was less so. Both had new directors, with Edwards credited as a writer.

He continued to supervise Andrews' career, which included a short-lived television series and her 1996 return to Broadway in a $8.5 million version of Victor/Victoria. Edwards directed the show, which drew mixed reviews. When Andrews was the only one connected with the musical to be nominated for a Tony, she announced to a matinee audience that she was declining the nomination because her co-workers had been snubbed.

Andrews and Edwards married in 1968. She had a daughter, Emma, from her marriage to Broadway designer Tony Walton. Edwards had a daughter, Jennifer, and a son, Geoffrey, from his marriage to Patricia Edwards. He and Andrews adopted two Vietnamese children, Amy and Jo.

A longtime painter, Edwards began sculpting in mid-life, and his bronze works in the style of Henry Moore drew critical praise in shows in Los Angeles and Bucks County, Pa.

Associated Press writer Bob Thomas contributed to this story.

Subscribe to Detroit News home delivery and receive a SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY OFFER.

My Notehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18331821630098394630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236874256656367281.post-3582179846709745782010-12-15T15:00:00.001-08:002010-12-15T15:00:08.102-08:00UK: Gangs and hardcore activists behind violence

LONDON â" Britain's Home Secretary said Monday that street gangs and hardcore activists infiltrated a protest last week in which demonstrators rampaged through London and attacked a car carrying Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla.

Several hundred people vandalized government buildings, battled riot police and rounded on the royal couple as they drove to a theater â" smashing a window of their Rolls-Royce and splattering the car with paint.

Home Secretary Theresa May said many of the 15,000 people who gathered last Thursday in central London to protest planned increases in college tuition fees became involved in the violence.

She confirmed that one protester had managed to make contact with Camilla during the attack on the car.

It is quite clear that these acts were not perpetrated by a small minority but by a significant number of troublemakers, May told the House of Commons.

May said police believe the protests were infiltrated by organized groups of hardcore activists and street gangs bent on violence.

Forty-three protesters were injured during clashes with riot police â" one seriously â" and 35 officers were hurt, as well. Officials also wouldnât say who made the 911 call.

Davlin did not show up for a court-ordered appearance this morning in a pending estate case involving his late cousin.

The news was announced during a press conference at the cityâs Emergency Operations Center at Municipal Center East. Williams was joined by department directors, aldermen and city employees, who somberly filed into the room.

Illinois State Police, who assumed control of the investigation, did not provide any significant details during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. State police director Jonathon Monken did say officers are interviewing Davlin's neighbors and searching his home. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Ward 3 Ald. Frank Kunz, who is mayor pro tem of the city and will take over mayoral duties, said he plans to cancel tonightâs committee of the whole meeting.

He said he is shocked and that it's a sad day.

Mayoral spokesman Ernie Slottag said day-to-day operations of the city will continue the same.

The city has 60 days to select a new mayor.

Davlin was elected as mayor in 2003. The two-term Democrat didn't file to run for re-election. Davlin said it was a desire to leave office before he got burned out â" and not his personal financial issues â" led to his decision to not run for a third four-year term.

Davlin's death comes nearly 12 years to the day his father, Robert E. Davlin, passed away.

Missed court hearing

Earlier Tuesday, the judge overseeing a probate case involving the estate of Davlin's cousin removed Davlin as administrator of the estate after he failed to show up for the court hearing.

Circuit Judge Pete Cavanagh had ordered Davlin and Bradley Huff, attorney for Catholic Charities of Springfield, to be in his courtroom this week to discuss the accounting and the status of attorneys in the estate of Margaret Ettelbrick, who died in 2003.

Davlin is executor of Ettelbrickâs estate.

Patrick âTimâ Timoney withdrew as lawyer for the estate in October, saying he could not come up with a final accounting because Davlin had not provided documentation. Timoney last week submitted a claim against the estate for more than $19,000 in legal fees.

LATEST UPDATES

3:48 p.m.: Illinois State Police director Jonathon Monken is providing little new information at a news conference this afternoon regarding the death of Mayor Tim Davlin. He said an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. Investigators are interviewing neighbors and others who might have information about the death, and they have searched the home for anything that is out of place.

3:30 p.m.: Springfield mayoral candidate Mike Coffey Jr., is among those offering condolences to the family of Mayor Tim Davlin, and has canceled a fund-raiser scheduled at his downtown restaurant, Saputoâs, tonight.

âToday is a sad day for Springfield,â Coffey said in a statement. âMy family and I would like to offer our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Mayor Tim Davlin, including his mother Norene and his four children.â

3:05 p.m.: Sheila Stocks-Smith, Davlin's one-time education liaison who recently announced she will run for mayor in the March election, said her campaign will suspend all campaign activity until further notice out of respect for the Davlin family.

âI am deeply saddened by the news today. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mayorâs family. Mayor Tim Davlin loved the City of Springfield and loved his family above all else,â she said in a news release.

2:40 p.m.: Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Gary Plummer was a friend of Davlin's and worked with him on many different projects related to the city.

He's always done a terrific job of representing the community, and I think his personality played into that in a big way, Plummer said. He never met a stranger. Once he got acquainted with anybody, they considered the mayor their friend. I just think he came across so naturally in that role that probably central casting couldn't have done a better job of finding someone better than Tim Davlin to represent Springfield.

Probably more than anything, I'll remember the sense of humor. He was the kind of guy you liked to be around.

Plummer said the first day he saw Davlin was on his first day on the job.

He was helping cut a ribbon for U.S. Senator Barack Obama's new Springfield office in the Illinois Building. And he was with Senator (Dick) Durbin and with Congressman (Ray) LaHood and Senator Obama, at that time, and he struck me as a very charismatic leader, Plummer said. In fact, I turned to someone and said, 'Who is that gentleman?' And the answer was it was the mayor, which, quite frankly, kind of surprised me because he looked like he probably should have been secretary of state or something the way he carried himself.

Among Davlin's biggest accomplishments, Plummer said, was his handling of the March 2006 tornadoes that devastated parts of Springfield's near south and east sides.

He and his team did an outstanding job of reacting to that, Plummer said. We think he's also stepped up in a big way during this controversy over high-speed rail and was able to use his influence to try to slow that project down to a pace that would allow more community input.

He had a very outgoing personality and he had a knack for making everyone around the table feel like they were an important part of the discussion, at least as important as he was to the discussion.

2:34 p.m.: The death of Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin is being felt across Illinois.

âWeâve had mayors from all over the state and people calling all morning,â said Roger Huebner, deputy executive director and general counsel of the Springfield-based Illinois Municipal League, adding the callers âwant to know whatever they can do for the family.â

Davlin is the immediate past president of the league, which represents more than 1,000 cities and villages. His one-year term as president ended at the annual meeting of the group in September in Chicago.

Huebner said Davlin showed âtireless energyâ not only running his own city, but as an advocate for cities on the national and state levels as well. He and Davlin attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama together.

âHe was such a tremendous man, able to grasp such highly complicated issues, and I always marveled at how he could distill it in a way that everybody could understand it,â Huebner said.

Davlinâs legacy will include some things that donât immediately come to mind, Huebner said, such as the installation of fiber optic cable thatâs helping businesses use state-of-the-art technology. Thereâs new water purification facilities coming online, he added. And a more obvious accomplishment is the construction of the cityâs new coal-fired power plant.

Davlin went on the municipal leagueâs board almost immediately after taking office in 2003, and it speaks well of him that he rose to president, Huebner said.

âItâs all the mayors of the state electing their leader,â he said. âItâs a leader among leaders.â

Huebner said he was with Davlin just this weekend at a board meeting of the league in Chicago, and things seemed âfine as could beâ with the mayor.

âHe was in great spirits,â Huebner said. âWe were laughing and telling jokes, just reminiscing a little about things, as you do as you get to the holiday season.

âHeâs just one of those exceptional men that light up a room.â

2:18 p.m.: The Illinois State Police have scheduled a 3:30 p.m. news conference to discuss the death investigation. The conference is at the agency's headquarters at Seventh Street and Lawrence Avenue.

1:25 p.m.: Ward 6 Ald. Mark Mahoney had this to say about Davlin's death:

It's a very sad moment for the city of Springfield, for the council and his administration, and we're all shocked. And I think it's still, at this moment, just dealing with that and trying to get through the next few days.

Mahoney said the last time he saw Davlin was at a Springfield City Council meeting about a week ago.

Our hearts and our prayers go out to his family, and we just can't fathom what they're dealing with, Mahoney said.

Mahoney wasn't sure whether Mayor pro-tem Frank Kunz would remain mayor or whether the city council will look to choose someone else.

I think we get through the next few days and go from there, he said.

City council coordinator Joe Davis said he considered Davlin a friend.

âI think he was respected by the council and the city,â he said. âI think heâs done one hell of a job as mayor.â

1:22 p.m.: The city of Springfieldâs website now only shows a picture of the mayor. Underneath the photo is âMayor Timothy Davlin 1957-2010â and a link to his biography.

The flag has been lowered to half-staff on top of city hall.

1:18 p.m.: Ward 2 Ald. Gail Simpson said she will remember Davlin as a âman who loved the city.â

âI think the worst part of his job was having to lay off people or even contemplate the layoffs of people, she said. I believe he was sincere. He will be missed.

She said she hopes people arenât rushing to judgment about his death.

âI hope that people will keep their family in their prayers, especially his mom and his children,â she said. âThis ought to be a time for the city to pull together and mourn the loss of a special man.â

Meanwhile, Bishop Thomas John Paprocki of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield issued this statement:

We have heard with great sorrow of the death of Springfieldâs Mayor Timothy Davlin. We commend him to the mercy of God and offer our prayers for him and his family.

1:14 p.m.: The Illinois Municipal League, of which Davlin was a past president, issued the following statement this afternoon:

The Illinois Municipal League mourns the loss of IML Past President, Board Member and friend, Mayor Timothy J. Davlin of Springfield.

Mayor Davlin was a member of the IML Board of Directors since 2003, and just completed his one-year term as the League's President this past September.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult and sad time.

Additional information for services will be added as they are known.

1:07 p.m.: Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, a friend and fishing buddy of Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin for more than three decades, says the city of Springfield has lost an outstanding leader and he has lost a great friend with Davlinâs death.

Davlin was a page in the House when White was a state representative from Chicago.

âI used to send him downstairs to get me lunch ⦠and then we started talking about fishing,â White recalled. âAnd he says, âIâm a big fisherman. I fish all over the place.â And I said, âWell, first chance we get, Iâd like you to take me to some of those places.ââ

âI think we probably fished in every pond in Sangamon County,â and some others nearby, White said.

White said there were probably 25 to 30 such trips when he was a lawmaker.

âAfter he became the mayor of the city of Springfield, we really, really got a chance to move our relationship forward in a highly professional way,â added White, who spoke by telephone from Chicago.

When White had a re-election announcement in 2009 in Springfield, Davlin introduced him. And White also recalled an Illinois Municipal League event in Chicago. Davlin, the immediate past president of the group, had invited the Jesse White Tumblers to the perform at the meeting. White said Davlin was put in the line as someone the tumblers could jump over.

âIt was a fun time for all,â White said.

âI just found him to be a wonderful young man, and then later on, an outstanding adult and leader of the city of Springfield,â White said. âThe people of the city of Springfield lost a wonderful, wonderful human being, and I lost a personal friend ⦠a great friend.â

12:45 p.m.: Citizens of Springfield say they are shocked to hear of Davlin's death today.

Roy Newman, pastor, Fresh Visions Community Church

I got the news just like everyone else. My thoughts go out to the family, Newman said on his way to work in downtown Springfield Tuesday morning, about 30 minutes after hearing about Davlin's death. My thoughts go out to the family. We all have problems. In talking with my wife, we were saying you never know what's going on internally with a person.

Newman said he'd met Davlin several times. His wife, Jackie Newman, executive director of the Springfield Housing Authority, also knew the late mayor.

We've been at some events together. Did a couple photo opps. We greeted each other kindly. There's a lot we'll all have to work through in the next few weeks and months.

Kate Hawkes, owner Trout Lily Café

It's just shocking and very sad, said Hawkes, who remembers crowning Davlin as the king of Springfield's Mardi Gras a few years ago, when she and others started a Mardi Gras organization in town and held a celebration at the Inn at 835.

It's sad he felt compelled to take his life, especially for the family, Hawkes said. He's been in here a few times in conjunction with Mardi Gras. I didn't always agree with his decisions (as mayor) but I just think it's tragic. There obviously were things in his life that weren't right. I find it terribly sad. I am a mother and have sons. I have an idea of how I'd feel.

Tim Donley, retired state worker

We were all shocked, Donley said Tuesday morning at Café Andiamo, where Donley and a group of friends routinely gather in the mornings. We were all on our cell phones. We were all shocked. Nobody said anything. Just disbelief.

Donley, whose family used to own the Maid-Rite restaurant and the now-closed Timbersmoke restaurant, said Davlin and members of his family would come in and eat from time to time.

He stayed at Timbersmoke two to three hours once. He had gotten a plaque. I saw him last week at Sam's Club. He always was really friendly. I voted for him both times. It's a tragedy. He's got children. His family was so proud of him, you could tell. I've already prayed for them.

12:40 p.m.: City officials are reacting this afternoon to news of Davlin's death.

City Clerk Cecilia Tumulty: Itâs heartbreaking for the family and for the city. I will certainly keep the entire Davlin family in my prayers.â

Ward 5 Ald. Sam Cahnman said he was âshocked and devastated.â

Canhman said he saw Davlin at the recent tree-lighting ceremony for the city Christmas tree and that Davlin âwas jovial and upbeat.

âI wouldnât have expected this in a million years.â

12:36 p.m.: Yellow police tape and multiple squad cars blocked off access to Apple Creek Drive Tuesday morning. Springfield police said they were maintaining a perimeter around the home as state police investigated inside.

Word of Davlinâs death spread quickly through the neighborhood.

Dr. Sam Gaines of Colbrook Drive lives just a few doors west of Davlinâs residence.

He said he and his wife, Doloris, were on their way to her doctorâs appointment about 9 a.m. when they drove past Davlinâs home. He said the garage door was half-open and the mayorâs car was running.

âWe thought he was just warming it up before he goes out,â Sam Gaines said.

Later, the couple was at Vonoâs Pharmacy and heard something had happened to the mayor. Their daughter, Samantha Gaines, who also lives at their home, was at her job at the Springfield Housing Authority when she heard there had been a shooting in their neighborhood. She immediately raced home to make sure her parents were OK.

The entire family expressed shock and sadness.

âHe was a nice guy. Every time his car would go by and I was out in the yard, heâd wave and smile,â Sam Gaines said.

He couldnât recall how long Davlin had lived in his home but said the mayor hosted a Christmas reception for the neighborhood shortly after moving into the house.

Sam Gaines said the mayor frequently had relatives and friends over and on Saturday mornings could be heard taking his motorcycle out for a ride.

Gaines, a physician at St. Johnâs Hospital, became emotional when he recalled how Davlin took time to ask him how he was doing after another doctor at the hospital was stabbed.

âItâs really, really sad,â he said.

12:15 p.m.: U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., issued a statement today offering his sympathy to the family of Mayor Tim Davlin.

âI was stunned and saddened by the news of Mayor Tim Davlinâs passing,â Durbin said. âHis work with my office always reflected his dedication to our hometown. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this tragic moment.â

12:10 p.m.: Sen. Larry Bomke, R-Springfield, called Davlinâs death âreally a shocker.â

âHe had the kind of charisma every elected official wishes they had,â Bomke said. âThe guy could have been elected to anything if thatâs what he wanted to do.â

Bomke said he last spoke with Davlin about two weeks ago when Davlin appeared before the Senate Local Government Committee on which Bomke serves. Davlin testified in support of a bill reforming police and fire pensions.

âHe was himself, smiling and did an excellent job in his presentation,â Bomke said.
Bomke said they chatted before the hearing.
âI asked him what his plans were. He said he had no plans,â Bomke said.

12:05 p.m.: Gov. Pat Quinn says Springfield is a better place because of the leadership of the late Mayor Tim Davlin.

Quinn, a fellow Democrat, says in a statement that Davlin was a great public servant who loved the city and its people.

He says Davlin led the community through some of its most difficult times and worked hard to revitalize the city. I came to the Big Ten in '89, we added Penn State in '90, we added the new (trade)mark around '90 or '91. I, for one, thought it'd be natural to explore different and new names. We actually went through a process of reviewing new names. The reality was our presidents, our athletic directors and our faculty 20 years ago, and I will tell you there's not one athletic director, one faculty member, one president (who was in favor of a name change). The people who are here today feel exactly like the people who were here 20 years ago.

AP: When it came to the new division names, did you consider just naming them â" as so many have suggested â" after iconic players or coaches from the past?

JD: We've got a treasure trove of great people who've helped us create and establish the traditions and the values that we have. We couldn't ever arrive at honoring two individuals in that way. And so, to use a football metaphor, we punted on that.

AP: Some might say that the division names the Big Ten has chosen â" Leaders and Legends â" are bland, and there's nothing distinctive or unique about them, that they could pertain to any conference.

JD: All of these things will engender discussion, from the addition of Nebraska, to the selection of a television partner to the selection of where the inaugural (championship game) will occur, to the divisional structure, who's in what division. We want to engage our fans. All I can tell you is that we thought long and hard about what not to do. We thought harder about what to do. I think there's a calculation here we're trying to tie ourselves to our history and to also project forward by marrying the teaching aspect and the learning aspect that we think are inherent.

AP: When it comes to the trophy names, there must have been a huge volume of names to consider and winnow through.

JD: Hundreds of individuals.

AP: Now that the divisional alignments for football have been out there for three months, do you have any second thoughts about the setup, and have some within the conference expressed disappointment in where the teams are?

JD: No, not really. There's a lot of support for the way that it's set up. I would say that the only noise that we had was because we didn't go East and West, we weren't able to get the amount of competition between Wisconsin and Iowa and Wisconsin and Nebraska that a geographic distribution would have allowed us to do. But if we had gone that way, I think we would have fallen short of the first principle, which was competitive equality.

AP: Do you foresee a time when the divisional alignment will be re-evaluated and tweaked if there is an imbalance between the two divisions?

JD: We certainly didn't set it up to change it. I doubt whether or not a five-year competitive record would be sufficient justification to go back to the drawing board. I think if you look at it 20 years from now and it was out of kilter and it had been out of kilter for a decade, some future administration might look at it. ... Twenty years from now, maybe the world will be different. And maybe it'll be time to take a look. But we certainly didn't set out thinking we were going to be tweaking this on a five- or 10-year basis.

AP: You've been commissioner for almost 22 years. Do you think of retirement? How long will you continue as the Big Ten's commissioner?

JD: As long as I'm relevant, as long as I'm enjoying it and as long as the people I work for think that I'm contributing. I really haven't given it a lot of thought. It's really not about tenure, because I've really never been one to count the number of years I was here. I'm sort of more interested in the projects we're working on and whether or not we're successfully pushing projects forward.

AP: Many see the future of intercollegiate sports as super conferences. Do you see that coming?

JD: We already have them. The Big East is a super conference. And the WAC was. But then there's others that are smaller. I think you'll see variations. I think the basic model's probably at a dozen. And that's the ACC, the Pac-10 and the Big Ten, and the SEC. But I think the Big 12 is going to be really comfortable at 10. ... We worked with 11 quite well for 20 years. We're cautious and conservative, try to be reflective. We're up to 12 now. I know a lot of people write about super conferences, but we didn't give a lot of thought to it.

AP: The Big Ten has said that further expansion is on the back burner. When do you think the Big Ten might expand again?

JD: To be honest with you, I know we'll monitor the landscape as any good group ought to, every five years or so. We all read the papers and we all watch TV and we all watch our competition. But I will tell you this, the amount of respect or affection we have for each other is high and we really want to play each other more and not less. And so I think it's more likely than not that we'll be at 12 for many years.

AP: Do you believe Notre Dame will remain an independent in football?

JD: I do. I do. I think that's their destiny. I take them at their word. We had some discussions 10 years ago. We really haven't had any discussions with them since. ... Their history has been independent and their destiny is as an independent.

AP: Do you foresee any possibility at any time in the future that the Big Ten might favor a playoff system rather than the BCS and the current bowl system?

JD: No. You wanted a simple answer to a simple question.

My Notehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18331821630098394630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236874256656367281.post-50601761505739620382010-12-12T15:00:00.001-08:002010-12-12T15:00:49.034-08:00Metrodome Collapse Video: Watch Vikings Stadium Crushed by Snow

Metrodome collapse video provides an illustration of why the Minnesota Vikings have been seeking a new stadium for over 10 years.

A nasty winter storm dumped more than 17 inches on the Twin Cities in less than 24 hours, creating concern the dome roof might collapse.

Workers scrambled to clear the fallen snow from the dome surface Saturday evening, but safety concerns brought those efforts to a close.

It didn't take long for the roof to give way.

This shocking video shows the entire roof buckling before snow pours onto the turf near the end zone.

According to the Vikings, two of the dome's triangular Teflon sections broke under the the weight of the snow.

Following the collapse, the NFL called a quick audible and moved the Week 14 contest to Detroit's Ford Field.

The game had already been postponed until Monday after the weather conditions forced the Giants to spend the night in Kansas City.

With an extra 30 hours of rest, Brett Favre might be able to extend his consecutive games-started streak after all.

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, Favre would not have played if the game kicked off Sunday as originally scheduled.

Minnesota is calling the Hall of Fame quarterback a game-time decision.

Turning back to the sunken roof of the Metrodome, questions are beginning to swirl regarding what the future may hold.

There is no timetable for the repair process, putting next week's game between the Vikings and the Bears in serious doubt.

Vikings' principal owner Zygi Wilf has made his desire for a new stadium known for years with no tangible success.

The Vikings continue to seek state funding in hopes of building a new facility.

Unless something can be worked out soon, there is a chance Wilf could at least explore options of moving his franchise elsewhere.

The Vikings' lease on the Metrodome, also known as Mall of America Field, expires following the 2011 season.

This article is
What is the duplicate article?

Why is this article offensive?

Where is this article plagiarized from?

Why is this article poorly edited?
Flag This Article
My Notehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18331821630098394630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236874256656367281.post-60873299476602748662010-12-11T15:00:00.001-08:002010-12-11T15:00:19.575-08:00Keith Sweat Died? You know, where bored people with too much time on their hands starts tweeting that something happened, and by the time it gets re-tweeted fifty million times, itâs being hailed as fact. Itâs entertainment for the new-age kids.

Personally, I think any celebrity that gets murdered by Twitter can add a notch to their fame level. You know youâve arrived when they tweet about your death!

Keith Sweat is an R&B singer and songwriter. He is appearing tonight at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. He has not had a major hit in several years, although he released his tenth album in June. He hosts a nationally syndicated radio show called âThe Keith Sweat Hotelâ which is very popular. As his career progresses more toward producing rather than singing, he has discovered and helped launch two bands which are doing well: Silk and LSG.

Related posts:

The Romantic Side of Keith Urban

<a href= http://www.current-movie-reviews.com/industry/2010/04/15/has-art-laboe-died-inquiring-minds-want-to-know/ rel= bookmark title= Permanent Link: Updated â" Has Art Laboe Died? James finalized the purchase of his South Beach home on Thursday, but that did nothing to change the Miami Heat's NBA championship betting odds.

James ruffled a lot of feathers last summer when he traded in his Cleveland Cavalier home jersey for a Heat jersey. James was blasted for the way in which he handled leaving Cleveland, and his reputation has yet to recover from the media circus that he created when he announced his decision on a live ESPN telecast.

James has taken his time in finding a permanent home on South Beach and Thursday he decided on a $9 million mansion overlooking Biscayne Bay. The house is 20,000 square feet, has two sixty-foot yacht docks, six bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms.

As for their on the court adventures, the Heat have steadied the ship in recent weeks. They are on a winning streak that was extended last night in Utah, where the Heat avenged an earlier home loss to the Jazz. The next big test for Miami will come on Christmas Day when they face the two-time defending NBA champions in Los Angeles.

The Lakers and the Heat have exchanged places at the top of the championship betting odds several times since the summer. Los Angeles has struggled a bit of late, while the heat have started to click. The Lakers have fallen to the third position in the West, the same spot the Heat are tied for in the East, behind Boston and Orlando.

In the West, Dallas is the hottest team in the conference, but the San Antonio Spurs still have the best record. The Spurs have a rejuvenated Manu Ginobli and a healthy Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. The Lakers will be helped out by the return of Andrew Bynum sometime before the end of the month. Miami is still awaiting the return of sharp-shooter Mike Miller.

December 9, 2010
Posted By Vincent Tapoglia III
Staff Editor, CasinoGamblingWeb.com
Submit News!

My Notehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18331821630098394630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236874256656367281.post-79513600374779673122010-12-09T02:22:00.001-08:002010-12-09T02:25:17.745-08:00Urban Meyer to resign from Florida after Outback Bowl

GAINESVILLE, Fla. â€" Florida football coach Urban Meyer is stepping down after the Gators' appearance in the Outback Bowl.

The 46-year-old Meyer led Florida to two national titles, but began to show the strain of his high-profile job last season when he briefly quit in December then returned the next day. He cited health concerns last year when he quit. He had been hospitalized with chest pains after the Gators lost to Alabama in last season's Southeastern Conference championship game.

This time, he did not mention his health being an issue.

At this time in my life, however, I fully grasp the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field. The decision to step down was a difficult one, he said in a statement released by the school today. But, after spending more than two decades motivating and celebrating the young men I've been so proud to coach, I relish the opportunity to cheer for my three terrific kids as they compete in their own respective sports. Most notably, Google wants your display url to be exactly the same as your destination url. You can not have two different display urls that lead to the same destination url. Basically they want to make sure that your when your visitor clicks on your ad that they land on the same root domain that was in the display url. Not really a major change, they are saying they really want you to abide by these rules now, and that you have until April 1st to make any changes necessary to keep your campaigns running above board.

If you are violating the new enforcement, you need to transition your ads carefully, so there is not a major impact to your quality score. Changing the display urls on your current ads will have an immediate impact on your quality score for those ads. When you change the display url, the ad will in effect become a new ad, and your quality score for the old ad copy will be reduced, giving you a new quality score. So what you should do is create ad clones of your old ads with a new rule compliant display url, while letting the old ads run. This will allow the new ads to get an ad history before you need to rely on them. Then when you have sufficient ad history, and the quality score is good, pause your old ads that are violating the rules. By the time April 1st rolls around, you should have everything under control. You can also just change your current ads if they aren't that important or not running much volume, and they should adopt their old quality score in a relatively short period of time.

You shouldn't be scared of changing your ad copy because you fear losing quality score. Changing your ad copy can result in improving the quality score of your keywords in the long term which should lower your bids and increase your profit margins. Considering that a keywords quality score is affected by the average history of all ads related to it, you can really help your bids by improving your ad copy. However, if you feel that your copy is at or near perfection, changing it may not be necessary, and the short term quality score effects could lead to higher cpc and/or ad placement changes. Most of the time, you want to make changes to copy in the beginning of a campaign and let the ad have time to gather history. If your campaign is not doing well, there are many factors besides the copy that are probably affecting its efficacy. My Notehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18331821630098394630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2236874256656367281.post-71260591828602375522010-08-30T15:48:00.000-07:002010-08-30T15:52:02.846-07:00How Do I Know If I Am a Candidate For a Debt Relief Program? While specific debt relief companies have their own requirements for candidates, there are a number of fields that individuals can examine in order to determine whether or not they will likely be good candidates for such programs.

To begin with, most companies require their applicants to be at least ten thousand dollars in debt, and they must also possess a deep desire to become free of debt. Many individuals who are in the military cannot be aided by such programs because debt negotiation and debt consolidation may jeopardize the individuals who need security clearance. Individuals who are employed by the federal government need to be carefully screened in order to determine whether or not they are choice candidates for such a program. The following details the main guidelines that need to be explored in order to have the best odds of being approved for such a financial assistance program.

First, it is vital that individuals have a strong desire to be debt free. Debt relief programs are not just to get people out of debt. There is an educational process that takes place in order to help enrolled candidates learn about debt and how to avoid it going forward. There is no reason for companies to help individuals who do not honestly want to be debt-free for the long run.

Individuals must also want to avoid having to declare bankruptcy. This is often an option for individuals in debt, but it can be very hard to recover from such a process - and recovery can take a number of years to accomplish. Next, such financial aid programs help to take care of unsecured debt. For many people, this means that their debt will need to be comprised primarily of credit card debt. This can include major credit cards, financing contracts and department store credit cards. Miscellaneous bills, secured loans, government or federally funded student loans and other similar debt cannot be included in debt relief and their programs. Medical bills can often be negotiated by debt relief programs and the administrators working for the programs. Based on the background of the medical bill, it can be determined whether or not the specific bill can be included in a candidate's debt relief program.

During this time period, candidates must prepare to have a certain kind of budget planned out. For many people, this means that they will need to expect to pay roughly the same amount of money that they are already paying when it comes to their individual bills over the course of a month. Most of the money that has previously been paid goes toward the interest owed on the money that an individual has been borrowing.

Going forward, with help from the financial assistance program, less of the paid money will be going toward interest, and more will be going toward the actual amount of money that is owed by the individual. Candidates should be prepared to pay between two and three hundred dollars each month for every ten thousand dollars that the individual owes. Specifics can be determined by discussing your individual case with a debt relief program and representative. My Notehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18331821630098394630noreply@blogger.com0
